Residential hospices provide compassionate 24/7 end-of-life care in a home-like setting for individuals with life-limiting illnesses as well as volunteer supports and grief and bereavement care. There are 3 in Hamilton, including: Dr. Kemp’s House, Emmanuel House Hospice and Margaret’s Place Hospice. There is also a 60-bed Palliative Care Unit (PCU) at St. Peter’s Hospital for patients with more complex pain/symptom management needs.

Established in 2016, the Ontario Palliative Care Network (OPCN) is a partnership of health service providers, community and social support service organizations, health systems planners, as well as patient and family/care partner advisors formed to develop a coordinated and standardized approach for delivering palliative care services in the province.
